AITD Associate Fellow

Responsible for quality and compliant assessment practice for all training provision within SA Country Fire Service including recognition of prior learning (RPL) and staff professional development.

It is Serena’s role to develop and manage required assessment systems including validation in accordance with the Standards of Registered Training Organisations 2015 and the requirements of the Public Safety Training Package (PSTP). Serena provides advice and assessment to all volunteers and staff of appropriate training, assessment, RPL pathways along with information on relevant qualifications. Serena also provides advice and support in the area of compliance as a Registered Training Organisation and delivers nationally accredited training in the area of incident management and presentation skills.Serena holds operational on-call roles within the State Level 3 Incident Management Team throughout the year including Fire Danger Season and manages the Staff Professional Development budget and process, being part of the CFS Staff PD Panel to ensure equity, giving advice to staff on upcoming PD opportunities along with arranging ongoing PD activities for staff.


Serena has a 20 year background in RTO Management and Training & Assessment having previously held the role of Training Manager for a private RTO in the UK.Serena managed a team of 20+ T / Assessors / Internal Verifiers delivering a range of Government-funded programs / Apprenticeships within areas of Customer Service, Administration, T /Leading, Management, Retail, ICT, Learning & Development (TAE equiv), Hairdressing, Horticulture and Key Skills.

It was Serena’s role to ensure employers were impressed with services, that staff remained productive, happy, and learner-focused and that an RTO-compliant workplace was maintained.


During this time, Serena also held the role of Skills 4 Life Coordinator to ensure all depts were working to meet the Government agenda of improving the literacy, numeracy and language skills of learners across all training provision.
