Role of Resiliance in a System's Performance Management

LCDR Victoria Jnitova | Royal Australian Navy

Organisational performance management is primarily concerned with how well organisational systems achieve their requirements under specified conditions. Performance fluctuations are subjected to risk assessment and managed accordingly. In reality, future conditions are only partially predictable, and their current specifications might fail to reflect them appropriately.

Many organisations have realised the importance of future-proofing their systems against adversity and uncertainty, increasingly seeking ways to enhance their risk management practices with efforts to improve their organisational resilience. Our survey instrument for resilience performance measurement was developed to support this initiative. It was successfully implemented in Australia and United Kingdom, with reported benefits to Defence.

  2. Achievement of its mission is assured via performance management practices.
  3. A training system’s resilience requires performance measurement to future-proof it against adversity and uncertainty.
