Applying the neuroscience of Adult Learning
The brain is the driver of all learning and behaviour. As L&D professionals are tasked with making learning happen, this program provides an essential overview of the brain’s role in learning and how to design adult learning experiences with the brain in mind.
Content
This course introduces how the brain impacts thinking, behaviour and learning, offering a strong practical focus for applying neuroscience to make learning more effective.
The program explores key elements for creating learning environments that promote specific brain states most conducive to learning, including how to tap into the brain’s ability to drive motivation, engagement and curiosity. In the context of constant organisational change, the program also addresses how to overcome resistance and help participants create new high-performance habits over time.
This program builds on the broad introduction provided by AITD’s Adult Learning course. This additional program expands on key concepts, providing specific brain-based approaches for effective learning design and delivery. Neither program requires prerequisites or prior knowledge.
Outcomes
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- describe how the brain impacts thinking, behaviour and learning
- encode learning in 8 ways to create stronger memory and recall
- design lesson plans to manage cognitive load
- reverse the effects of negative emotional states on learning
- use engagement techniques to increase learner curiosity & motivation
- incorporate brain-based habit formation into learning experiences
- develop extended learning initiatives that align with the brain
- implement personal strategies for productivity, resilience and wellbeing
Audience
This course is ideal for all L&D practitioners, vocational education teachers or training professionals who are looking to create learning experiences that align with the latest neuroscience findings and interested in continuing their professional development.
