Being future-fit: What development pathways are available for learning professionals in today’s fast-moving organisations?
Learning and development practitioners come from a wide range of backgrounds and industries. In this webinar our panel of L&D experts will discuss the question that often comes up among individuals who are new to the L&D area, or those who wish to reinforce their professional credentials, what is the best development pathway forward for me?

Presenters:
Dr Amanda Lizier
Amanda is a lecturer and researcher in workplace and professional learning at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Her research interests focus on understanding the practices of work and learning in organisations, as well as leading and leadership through the use of systems approaches. Prior to joining UTS, Amanda worked for many years in industry within learning and organisational development roles, including learning design, facilitation, and strategic work leading learning functions within organisations. Her continued engagement with industry closely informs her research and teaching. Amanda’s work and engagement aims are to create a conduit between theory and practice, informing and improving workplace learning systems and practices.
Kathryn McGilvray
Kathryn has more than twenty years of experience as an educator, teacher, trainer, team leader, technology coach and consultant. In this session she will explore how work experiences and transferable skills can be used as a powerful tool for career advancement. Kathryn is interested in helping others understand how recognition of prior learning (RPL) provides a pathway to help workers gain accredited and non-accredited credentials for advancement in industry. New technology is driving workers to have improved digital skills and collecting evidence for RPL is improving all the time. Kathryn has worked closely with traditional trades to determine how their unique learning environments can be aided with the use of technology. She presented her research at the NCVER conference in 2019 ‘Skilling students in new and emerging learning environments.’
Chemène Sinson
Chemène is a learning and performance freelancer who helps adult educators develop and extend their skills as facilitators, assessors and instructional designers. For more than 30 years, Chemène has worked in diverse learning, education and performance environments, including the school system, VET sector, elite sport, adult and community education, government, not-for-profit organisations, corporations, and higher education providers. She understands the benefits and limitations of accredited pathways, such as the ‘Certificate IV’ qualification for trainers and assessors. She often works with adult educators to help them decide the best development pathway for them.
