Engaging Neurodiverse Learners – from their “lived” experience
- Nearly 33% of the population live with neurodiversity within the areas of learning, mental health or behaviour development areas
- Many are not diagnosed
- Research suggests that 4:1 are male
Further research indicates nearly 70% of employers are reporting difficulties in filling vacant positions, and with 77% of autistic people saying they want to work, the time has come for us to unpack this from a recruitment, training, and learning perspective. One work example from JP Morgan, eg autistic people were found to be far more productive (by 50%) far more quickly (6mths versus 3 years) in areas that leveraged their strengths.
The AITD Divisional Council in SA invite you to join us for a panel discussion with a difference. Here we will be joined by 4 neurodiverse learners and facilitators who will share their first-hand experience of how typical learning or training activities work (or don’t work) for them.
As our quality ‘A List’ of panellists are from across Australia, we are taking this event online through AITD’s webinar facilities, so, get yourself ready by charging up your tech device, sort your drink of preference, snacks plate and notebook ready.
This is one event you do not want to miss!

Peter Arbery - Founder/CEO at The Training Guru
Peter is known for his ability to conduct fun and beneficial group training sessions and one-on-one coaching for organisations and individuals within both the private and public sector. He meets with clients to establish the training needs and works with them to ensure greater impact on the effectiveness and to achieve results. Peter shares with us his own personal experience of how he has successfully manoeuvred the landscape of living with dyslexia. Peter grew up with the written word causing a little bit of pain and a ton of embarrassment. His experience is not unique. As learning professionals, you may have someone you are currently helping and they are either not aware or do not want to highlight, the obstacles your strategies are giving them. Peter’s story is a chance for us to reset and challenge how we can remain mindful and respectful to all learners.
